El payaso Pennywise tiene en su haber una multitud de asesinatos que se remontan desde hace siglos. La película que ahora dirige Andy Muschietti (Mama) paso por 4 guionistas y un nuevo protagonista Bill Skarsgård que va a hacer del famoso payaso Pennywise. Estoy haciendo un poco de historia porque este remake de IT tuvo un proceso de creación un tanto convulsionado, no es común tantos cambios de director, guionistas y cast ¿Por qué? Va a ser realmente una buena película de terror o es un producto sin mimo para recaudar dinero en la taquilla?

Cuando hablamos de IT(Eso – La Cosa) nos estamos refiriendo a un icono del genero del terror, que merece una adaptación moderna con gente de verdadero talento y amor por lo que está haciendo. Cuando vi las primeras imágenes del payaso con Bill Skarsgård enseguida se prendieron las alarmas ‘’aquí hay algo que no encaja’’ pero no soy prejuicioso, y realmente deseo una gran película, pero manteniendo mis reservas. Si me pongo a analizar los talentos que hay en la realización de este remake, Andy Muschietti demostró buena madera en Mama, pero tampoco es que era una película genial, es un director que aún debe demostrar que puede codearse con los grandes. Eso sí, en la cinematografía tienen a Chung- hoon Chung, que trabajo en Old- Boy, Stoker o Handmaiden, que es realmente impresionante su trabajo y parte de ello puede verse en el tráiler que se revelo hace poco. CRITICA: IT es un clásico del cine del terror, pero no era una película que se pueda decir perfecta, tenía altibajos y algunas limitaciones técnicas, ya que no se concibió como una película sino como una mini- serie para la televisión. De todos los grandes clásicos, IT era ideal para realizar un remake, técnicamente se podía mejorar muchísimo y hacer una mejor adaptación de la novela de Stephen King. Después de varios años nos llega esta película de Andres Muschietti de la mano de la Warner Bros y New Line Cinema con un presupuesto de 3. La idea es que esta película se centre exclusivamente en la infancia de ‘El club de los perdedores’ y la primera batalla frente a Pennywise, lo que ya lo estaría diferenciando de la versión de 1.

El resultado? Vamos a tratar de arrojar un poco de luz en cada uno de los apartados importantes de este remake (o readaptación, como usted quiera) porque hay cositas muy interesantes para escribir, aclarando que no se tiene en cuenta en ningun momento su fidelidad hacia el libro de King, sino como pelicula completamente independiente. En general no suelo hacer comparativas para realizar una critica, pero en esta oportunidad la veo necesaria).

En pleno 2. 01. 7 y con el mega- presupuesto que tiene esta película de terror, no podía esperar menos a nivel visual, la mejora es notoria en todos los frentes en comparación con la versión de 1. Muschietti dirige estupendamente cuando tiene que colocar la cámara y la cinematográfica del gurú Chung- hoon Chung se puede palpar en cada fotograma, sobretodo cuando se representan las escenas más ‘interesantes’, que es cuando Pennywise y sus víctimas hacen acto de presencia para atormentar a la muchachada.

Esto nos lleva directamente a la primera polémica de esta cinta, las escenas de terror. Si hay algo que tiene IT marcado con fuego, es que es una película de terror efectista, no hay demasiada ‘metáfora’ es directa y no deja demasiado lugar a la imaginación. Si hay algo que hacen bien otras cintas de terror como El Conjuro (por ejemplo), es que saben gestionar esta etapa previa al susto, la anticipación, donde James Wan logra estirar la tensión lo más que se pueda hasta que ya no se puede más y llega lo inevitable, el susto de infarto.

IT en cambio es más simple y apela al scare- jump de toda la vida, este es un recurso valido y funciona, la película en varios pasajes da miedo, pero pierde efecto cuando se repite una y otra vez, sobretodo para una cinta de 2 horas con 1. Esto nos lleva directamente a la segunda polémica, la duración. Si la película hubiese contado la infancia y la etapa adulta, dos horas hubiese sido insuficiente, pero cuando quiere contar solo una etapa, 2 horas es demasiado.

La película es larga innecesariamente para lo que quiere contar, le sobran por lo menos 2. La versión de 1. 99. La versión de Muschietti es larga en su duración, pero eso no quiere decir que no se sienta apresurada y forzada a meter sustos repartidos de forma homogénea (mira las palabritas que estoy usando.) ¿Qué quiero decir? Que la película dura más para meter más sustos y no para mejorar la trama o profundizar más en los personajes o en el propio origen de Pennywise, lo que hubiese sido genial. Esto nos desemboca de lleno frente a la tercera polémica de esta cinta, los personajes. Para decirlo bien clarito y sin tapujos, los personajes de la versión de 1.

Están mejor perfilados, mejor desarrollados y tienen mas carisma. El casting elegido para este remake no está para nada mal, hay varios talentos como Sophia Lillis (la mejor actuación de la película) o Jaeden Lieberher, pero los personajes no dicen nada realmente y hay algunos que atentan seriamente contra la película como Finn Wolfhard, que vimos en Stranger Things. Aquí se la pasa haciendo chistes cada vez que abre la boca, no deja pasar ni una oportunidad, rompiendo muchas veces ese halo de suspenso y terror que logra Pennywise con su mal genio. Esto nos hace dar de canto en los dientes frente a la cuarta polémica de IT, Pennywise. Cuál Pennywise es mejor? Nuevamente hay que ser totalmente categóricos, la representación visual que logra Tim Curry como el payaso Pennywise resulta más convincente que la versión de Skarsgård, es más intimidante.

Este nuevo payaso no está mal, tiene algunos momentos formidables, pero a veces se lo nota demasiado cargado. La película intenta ser efectista y a veces abusa con las transformaciones del payaso cuando realmente no son necesarias, esto se nota sobretodo en la batalla final, que también hay que decirlo, es mucho más convincente que en la versión de 1.

Podría escribir muchos detalles, como, por ejemplo, hay una escena particular en donde la cara del payaso se transforma por breves segundos en la versión de Tim Curry, es muy sutil, pero está allí y uno no deja de preguntarse porque no haber mantenido el diseño original del payaso en lugar de cambiar por cambiar…en fin.
